1 1/2 cups white sugar (divided in half) 2 cups all purpose flour 3/4 cup cocoa powder (divided into 1/4 and 1/2 cup) 1 tsp baking soda 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips or chunks
Combine flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt in a bowl and mix well. Set aside. Pour approx. one half of the measured sugar into a clean, quart size mason jar. Pack down well. Mix the remaining sugar with 1/4 cup cocoa powder and add to the jar, too. Pack down again. Pour half of the flour mixture into the jar, compacting yet again. Mix remaining cocoa powder with the leftover flour mixture and pour this into the jar. If you are lucky enough to have room left over at the top of the jar (with LOTS of packing in between and after this last layer) then add the chocolate chips/chunks to the top of the jar. I had trouble fitting these in so I put the chunks into a cellophane bag and tied it to the jar.
Attach following recipe tag to the jar:
Chocolate Lovers Cookies Whip 1 1/4 cup butter or margarine until fluffy. Add 2 eggs and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Beat until well combined. Stir in the ingredients from the jar and incorporate fully into the dough. Add chocolate chunks. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto a greased cookie sheet and bake at 350 degrees F for 8-10 minutes. Cool on sheet for 5 minutes and then move to a rack to cool completely.
